What to Do in NYC this Weekend: April 19 - 21

PhotoManhattan is offering their amazing iPhoneography class (Part one is 3 hours) on Saturday, April 20th at 10:15. Whether you want to be able to take better pictures with your iPhone so you can gain followers on Instagram or just to see what it can do, we think you’d love this class. 

Description from site: These 2-3 hour classes will teach you how to maximize the potential of these devices and what you can do with some of its most popular photo apps. You will learn how to effectively work around some of its limitations and increase your iPhone’s potential!


The International Center of Photography’s exhibit on Roman Vishniac is up until May 5th. Vishniac (1897–1990) “created the most widely recognized and reproduced photographic record of Jewish life in Eastern Europe between the two World Wars.” 

Description from site: Roman Vishniac Rediscovered brings together four decades of work by an extraordinarily versatile and innovative photographer for the first time. This exhibition introduces recently discovered and radically diverse new bodies of work by Vishniac, and repositions his iconic photographs of Eastern Europe within the broader tradition of 1930s commissioned social documentary photography.

TRIBECA DRIVE-IN (Saturday, doors open at 6pm, movie starts at 8pm, free)

The Tribeaca Film Festival started this week, meaning that the popular Tribeca Drive-In is back at Brookfield Place (World Financial Center Plaza)! This Saturday, April 20th, will be a screening of the TFF 2013 film, Lil Bub & Friendz, featuring some famous online cats. Before each movie, be sure TFF promises games and activities for all ages, including movie trivia contests, ghoulish costume contests, face painting, prize giveaways and more.

CHOCOLATE FEST 2013 (Sunday, 8pm, $35)

Who doesn’t love chocolate? Head over to the 92nd Street Y’s festival dedicated to all things chocolate! 

This year’s line up includes Guittard, Valrhona, Gotham Wines and Liquors, Liddabit Sweets, FIKA, Guido Gobino, The Cacaoist, Standard Cocoa,Pralus, Bonnat, Murray’s Cheese, Chocolat Moderne, Bee’s Knees, The Manhattan Chocolate Society, MP Frederick Confectioners, Royce Chocolate and the Grenada Chocolate Company. Chocolate Fest NYC is produce by culinary historian and chocolate expert Alexandra Leaf.

BROOKLYN FOLK FESTIVAL 2013 (Fri-Sun, check schedule for set times)

The 5th annual Brooklyn Folk Festival is this weekend! The 3-day festival includes 30 bands, vocal and instrumental workshops, a family-friendly square dance, film screenings, the return of the Banjo Toss contest and more! This year the festival will be held at the Bell House, a wonderful venue on 7th St. btwn 2nd and 3rd avenue.
